I'm Supposed to be Planning Something?? Reasons Why I Might Be a Bridal Fail

Ok, finally made a Pinterest board. Baby steps.

It’s only natural.  And by all means, I am not complaining about it because I love discussing the fact that I will be marrying the man of my dreams in T-minus 3 months!  But every time somebody asks me “how are the wedding plans going?” I find myself stumped.  I’m supposed to be planning something?!

With all of the lengthy wedding checklists out there, it appears as though it would be an arduous process, but I couldn’t disagree more.  Perhaps I’m the anti-bride, or maybe I’ve just really changed my expectations, but I honestly feel like I don’t care about half of the sh*t on those lists.  Will I regret it when wedding day comes?  Will I realize I actually do have 5,000 things to do the week before?  Maybe.  But as long as I become a Mrs. at the end of the day, I really don’t think the “extras” are necessary.

I don’t care about flowers.  Really.  “Don’t you want flowers on the altar?” No.  “Don’t you want some for decorations?” No.  I honestly wouldn’t have a single flower at my wedding if I wasn’t worried about what I’d do with my hands.  So, I guess I’ll get a few for myself to hold and for each bridesmaid.

I’m not choosing colors.  Choosing colors to me means that I have to toil over decorations and ways to incorporate it into the venue (which is a bar, decorated like a bar).  It also means choosing specific dresses for other people to wear, which I honestly couldn’t care less about and do not wish to spend one ounce of worry over.

We’re using an ipod.  No DJ.  No band.  No designated dance area.  Just some background noise to listen to while we hang out with loved ones and celebrate our special moment.

We’re saving a tree.  Meaning, we’re forgoing a lot of the stationary involved in your typical wedding.  No Save the Dates, no programs, no separate reception or RSVP card.  In fact, we are doing all of our RSVPs online so I can’t lose them or mess up somewhere!

That being said, with all of the things I am skipping, there are surely a lot of things I am NOT skipping.  I have a shower and weekend-long bachelorette party lined up, as well an amazing photographer and the dress of my dreams.  There is certainly plenty of time between now and wedding day to change my mind on certain particulars, but my experience so far has been that wedding planning does not have to be all that involved.  It is what you want it to be, so if you’re not into every detail of a traditional wedding, don’t sweat it.  Your marriage will be just a fabulous regardless of the amount of pageantry that goes on that day. How about you?  What were your "must haves" and your "go withouts"?

  1. I didn't care about flower either, the expense alone drove me away and the ones i did have were from samsclub.com or potted plants borrowed from friends and family. we didn't do a dj either and my only regret is we didn't have any music so no first dance which i would have liked, an ipod is a great idea!

    1. Yes, I have to admit the music is the only thing that I am slightly worried about, so hopefully it works out ok! I think I'm going to buy roses from Costco and make my own bouquets for the ceremony!

  2. I think people get super wrapped up in the little details and decor that they forget what the day is really about. As long as you and your husband to be are happy who cares what other people think!

    1. I agree. I'm just hoping that everybody still has fun, but I'm sure every bride gets nervous about that!

  4. Hiya! I found you @ Fitness Blondie's Blog Hop!

I am getting married in a little under 6 months, I have a countdown on my phone.. but, I don't think TODAY is the day to show you how nuts I am!

There is so much to plan and so much I didn't care for.
As I go through the process, it's picking and choosing what's important to us.

No bouquet for me, but, if the bridesmaids want them, I'm up for them carrying!
I didn't want flowers on the chairs or at the alter... I opted for rustic dream catchers that go on the aisle seats lining the walk way.
And, centerpieces are going to be Old Watering Cans, Oil cans, etc with Branches and burlap roses.

We didn't want a DJ... we're not big DANCERS... but, we are friends with a few people who are Musically inclined, and since they were invited anyway.. They're going to play some tunes.

The dress had to be perfect, but I'm not getting my hair done, I'm learning how to do it myself... My nails too... and my makeup... Just don't want to waste the money on something I know I can do.

A bar for a venue? That sounds great. Very personal.
I wanted a small backyard type idea... the man wanted something more substantial... The venue is epic, but oh wow... it is going to be a show... Compromises I suppose.

Can't wait to read more from you!

    1. So funny because I had the same experience with my fiance. Normally people think it's the bride that is into all the big wedding stuff, but it's actually my groom that's been wanting a big event! I think we've met in the middle though and everything will be just perfect!

  5. I agree with all of this! We only did invitations, no save the dates, etc. and we're not doing flowers either. The "flowers" that I'm walking down the aisle with are made of burlap and cost a fraction of what real flowers cost.

    1. Hmmm... You know it never even crossed my mind to walk down the aisle with a fake bouquet but I'm liking it!

    1. haha honestly when I was trying to think about how I'd get away with zero flowers, that was the only thing that kept going through my head!

  7. I like your style! We plan on renewing our vows, and it will totally be low key like this. In the end, it's a celebration of your love, and your love is all that needs to be there!
