After a month of having these precious angels home, I have to say it's not nearly as overwhelming as I thought it would be (I say while I'm on maternity leave ;)). I feed them, I change them, I bring them around the house with me and do my best to keep them entertained. The main thing that's struck me as different in my life that I hadn't really thought about before is my lack of ability to run out of the house whenever I please. I used to go to some type of store or run some type of errand I'd say almost daily, but no more. Now I really have to plan my store trips and be ultra efficient, because lord knows when the next time will be that I'm able to leave the babes and push an actual shopping cart around. Last week I needed to get a dress for an event we had coming up, so my mom came over to stay with the girls for a few hours. It wasn't until I found myself walking through the stores with little more than a small cross body purse that I realized I was mentally doing leaps and twirls past the storefronts.. so free, so light!
While I can't exactly bebop around as easily as I used to, I've definitely discovered how important it is to make time to get out of the house and see the world sometimes, both with the girls and without. Sure, there are days when it's nice to stay home and not do a damn thing, but multiple strings of days can drive a girl crazy, and possibly infants too.
We're lucky to leave in a prime location where activity is sometimes just a short walk away. Here we loaded up the double stroller and walked the girls into town to see the live band playing on Friday nights, and enjoyed some pizza and beer with friends.
Here I packed up the girls and took them to their dad's softball game. Thankfully the weather was warm, but not too hot, and the girls seemed to really enjoy themselves!
Nothing going on? No problem. We took them over to our friend's house and made our own happy hour on their screened in porch. Here we are ready to go, bottle of wine in tow!
And of course, sometimes we need to do things without them too. So thank you Grandma for watching them for our first night out together since they came home! Celebrating a friend's engagement was exactly the kind of date night I had in mind!
Happy Monday everyone! Let's make this week a great one!

First Monday of the school year and I am not spending it at work! I have to say, it feels pretty darn good, though I know I'd better not get too comfortable with the idea. Husband went back today and I know I'd better be extra nice to him and helpful around the house before he gets jealous of me getting to hang out with these little precious things...
As you can see it's been a while since I've blogged. The girls are both home now and we are settling into our life together quite nicely. I thought having two would be overwhelming, but I have to say, I'm pretty good to go at the moment. Maybe it's because they're still infants (I can see where mobility could really complicate things), but I really feel like I'm owning this mom thing and loving every second of it. I even took both babies to the pediatrician the other day by myself, navigating the car seats and double stroller through multiple doorways and making it back without any hiccups whatsoever.
My only complaint that comes and goes is a little bit of cabin fever since I can't exactly let my car accidentally drift over to the nearest mall anymore. And with some newfound energy and motivation, it's slightly saddening that a trip to the gym is surely a thing of the past. At least for a while. I'm definitely doing my best to keep things moving though with little exercise sessions on my living room floor and walks around the neighborhood with my perfect little family. The stroller definitely ups the workout factor of my walk and the girls seem to like it as well, even if they're sleeping the entire time.
Anyway, this week marks the start of my maternity leave and strings of days as a make believe housewife. Just the 3 of us girls, we'll be figuring out our new routines, and I'll be watching these babies grow bigger every single day. Stick with me as I soak up every precious moment and strive to make this mommy life look good!
