Grumpy Friday

I know, it’s Monday.  Don’t get excited.  But I have to address this recurring issue I’m having while it’s still fresh and before it gets any worse.  It seems to be a weekly event and I never see it coming until it’s suddenly here.  I may be the absolutely weirdest person on the face on the Earth, but for whatever reason, I HATE FRIDAYS.

It’s strange.  I wait all week for the dang day to arrive, wake up feeling all TGIF and “Woo hoo the weekend is here” and sure enough by 6:00 pm, I’m ready to punch the next person who talks to me square in the nose.  What is wrong with me?  Who hates Friday when the entire weekend is before you?

I’ve been perplexed by the phenomenon for a while now and I’ve come to a few conclusions.  First, I’m exhausted.  And to make it worse, I’m one of those exhausted people who will become a cranky little kid and cry for no apparent reason until someone forces me into bed.  I may think that I want to stay up and hang out and God forbid actually go out of my house on a Friday night, but when the time actually comes, I can’t hang.  This leaves me feeling even grumpier because I feel like everyone I know is out and about having fun, and here I am missing out on something.

I also have an issue turning off my brain and destressing.  I think I stay relatively sane and manage my stress well during the week because I don’t have a choice and I don’t have the time to let it get to me.  When I get home on a Friday and am finally allowed to rest, all of the stress I’ve been holding in all week comes rushing out of me, and not in a fun let’s have a drink type of way.  It comes out in a stressed out, leave me alone, but I wanna pick a fight with you anyway kind of way.  Yea, I can be a little nuts.  That’s why my fiance has even dubbed a name for my syndrome: GMF, or Grumpy Michelle Friday.

While I may be able to explain my feelings, I’ve been unsuccessful when it comes to controlling them, so I ask for advice.  Does anyone else suffer from grumpy Fridays?  How do you get out of your bad mood when it’s spiraling out of control?  I probably should just bake this cake ahead of time and have it ready for my fiance on Friday...

  1. I recently found your blog and instantly became hooked! I agree with this post though. I am a grumpy Friday person also. Deep down I am happy when it arrives but all the stress that I have dealt with all week finally comes out and I am too exhausted to do anything else. My Friday evenings are shot (spent home relaxing). Come Saturday I am much better though :) At least you still have 2 days after Friday to enjoy!

  2. I am the same, totally worn out by 5pm when I can finally go home and enjoy some time off. Only to have no energy and a patience level of negative one. I've recently started drinking water mixed with a scoop of amino energy (I get it at GNC) it has like green tea and other things in it. It perks me up and is seeming to help. I made it out of the house this past Friday! Woohoo anyways thought you might like to try it. Happy Monday!

    1. Thanks for the advice! I'm sure that would work because Red Bull usually does it for me if I absolutely need to stay up!

  3. This made me laugh because I can totally relate...except I suffer from Grumpy Morning Syndrome. {Oh, and this "mood" also hits me when I'm hungry...you know, something that the common two-year-old suffers from}. Anyway, I {and my patient husband} have just come to accept it...it's best not to talk to me for at least 30 minutes after I've gotten up in the mornings. Soooo....maybe just roll with Friday being your "down day"...like you're saving up all your energy for SUPER SATURDAY! :)

    XOXO,

  4. The best thing that ever happened to me was moving to a 4 day work week. Not only do I not feel the end of the day grumps on Fridays, but it really makes my weekend more enjoyable. I know that doesn't help you, but maybe one day you'll have the opportunity to give yourself a longer weekend? It's happening a lot lately in many different careers. Even schools are sometimes going to a 4 day week!

    1. Ugh, I wish! Maybe. Although I'm not sure my kids' attention span would last that long!

  5. This is so true, but mainly because Friday's mean nothing to me since my work operates 24/7 so I work on Fridays

  6. I completely understand! I thought I was the only one, so happy I'm not though...
I am sooo happy all day Friday, giddy to get to my car and leave work then BAM!
I get upset over the stupidest things, like the pizza was 2 minutes late, my boyfriend didn't greet me when my feet hit the welcome rug by the door, there is 2 cups in the sink.
Honestly, I usually have to reevaluate and check my emotions.
Me being grumpy is not changing anyone else's mood.
I'm not getting anywhere by being upset or frustrated so why not just breath and let it all go.
Have a drink or some queso (my favorite) and count to 10.
    Smile it will be okay.

  7. I totally get it. By the end of the week it's just so much built up stress. Makes total sense to me. I hate Sundays because I get sad that work is the next day haha!

Thanks for linking up for Monday Morning Gossip :)

  8. I don't get grumpy before the weekend but I do get kind of mean... I'm all "FU, FU, don't care, FU, over it, you don't exist, FU..."

  9. Haha that totally happens to me sometimes. Even worse if paired with hunger. Have you tried doing power naps? That sometimes help me refresh. Or, a really silly suggestion, I sometimes just put on Ke$ha. Her crazy and ridiculous lyrics/music just put me in a better mood sometimes lol. It's ok...you can judge me. :)
