Snowed in and Doing "Nothing"!

Snow days.  By the second day at home, I’m starting to hear people, my fiance included, whining.  They’re bored.  They want to do something.  They want to go to work and do something productive.  Well, I have a confession:  I could do nothing all day, all week and love every minute of it.  When I tell people this, I’m pretty sure they think I am the laziest, most worthless human being alive, but it’s the truth.  I did not want the snow day because I know I’ll have to pay for it later, but while it is here, I love being stuck in the house doing “nothing”.

I really have a tough time wrapping my mind around this concept of doing “nothing”.  How do people really think that they’re doing “nothing”?     I don’t agree with this.  In fact, I feel quite productive on days that I’ve done “nothing”.  Let’s see....

I went to the gym early yesterday and got a great workout in before the snow started falling, still getting home in time to shower, straighten my hair, and cook up a delicious breakfast that was ready just as the fiance got out of bed.

I caught up on my favorite morning programs like the Today Show and Kelly & Michael.  I actually knew what was going on in the world.  I got to drink two cups of coffee out of an actual mug and look out my breakfast window and the beautiful sights of nature (the snow was definitely falling by now).

I reorganized my Pinterest Boards.  And through doing so, I gathered inspiration and excitement for my upcoming wedding festivities, Valentines Day, and spring in general.  Always gotta have something to look forward to.

I wrote 3 full posts for the blog.  No, it’s not an actual job.  I’m not getting paid for this.  Other people may not care.  I did it for FUN and my own personal enjoyment.  If you don’t get it, read Whitney’s post and maybe you’ll understand.

I managed to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner out of my own kitchen.  Ok, dinner may have been a frozen pizza, but after breakfast and lunch, I was unwilling to take the pots and pans out for the third time.  I’m still impressed with myself.

I did some laundry, enjoyed a glass (or 2) of wine, and shoveled the sidewalk to our mailbox.

So all in all, I’d say that doing “nothing” is pretty spectacular.  Where do you stand?  Are you going stir crazy cooped up in the house?  Or do you enjoy getting snowed in?

  1. I love sitting around doing "nothing." I feel like I am on the go so much that every once in a while it's nice having a day where I can get laundry done by 1pm instead of 10pm, or organize the fridge how I have been wanting to, and/or (most of all) catch up on my DVR while lounging on my couch. I'm with ya sister!

  2. I. Am. So. Jealous. of your snow day!! People on Facebook say it's going to snow here in Houston, but I doubt that! It sounds to me like you did plenty! I mean, real talk, reorganizing Pinterest boards takes a lot of effort. So does writing 3 blog posts!

    1. haha that sounds exactlly like something mine would say! I feel bad like I should probably do myself up more, but especially in these frigid temperatures I want nothing more than my sweats!

  5. I think sometimes people don't think they can just slow down and do "nothing." It is always nice though, I think days like that allow you to recharge your system. There is no way we can always be go, go, go.

    1. Totally agree. I guess I've always been pretty good at the life/work balance thing, and sometimes I think that comes off as unmotivated. But I really just appreciate "me" time and relaxation :)

  6. Everything you describe in this post is SOOOO what I wish I could be doing! especially this past week was hell!! Ughh. We don't have snow, just really windy cold weather and I had to work like a little hamster on a wheel, surfing blogs while at work and not being focused on actual work because it's boring! LOL

You whipped up THREE blog posts? Wow you are superwoman! That's awesome.

I guess my conclusion is, I want a snow day STAT.

    Thanks for linkin' up :)

  7. I totally agree! We've had 6 snow days in my area (not in a row) and I did all sorts of activities during those days! I mean if cleaning out the DVR isn't productive then I don't know what is!
