Never Too Old for a Birthday Party

One of my favorite things about my circle of friends is that we still celebrate birthdays.  It’s really not even about the birthday, but more about getting to spend time together and celebrate life in general.  Like I said in my last post, we all seem to have the same penchant for enjoying the little things and celebrating even the mildest of accomplishments.

On Saturday we celebrated my dear friend’s 32nd birthday with a trip to a local winery. By “local”, I mean it was an hour away, though we did not discover this until we were in the car en route.  Hey, at least it gave us some good quality time together on the drive!

It was raining cats and dogs and the road was windy and muddy, but we made it.  Here we are at Tarara Winery in Leesburg, Virginia.  We were joined by another of our girlfriends from high school and many of her co-workers.

There weren’t really a ton of wines to taste, but they were very good and I went home with these 3 bottles.  I thought the bottles were cool, and bottles are what sell me wine.  I'll admit it.  The grounds looked absolutely beautiful like it would be a great place to hang out and crush bottles in the spring and summer.  They also have a summer concert series that sounds right up our alley.

After, we went back to her neck of the woods in Bethesda and chowed down on some delicious, nothing-healthy-about-it grub at American Tap Room.  Fried pickles and BBQ nachos.... yea I did it.  The bartenders even gave her a birthday brownie treat... candle and all!

Blowing out the candle!
What do you do to celebrate birthdays as you get older?  With many down and many more to come, we could use some ideas! :)

  2. We just celebrated my sisters' 3-0, and the theme was mourning my 20's so we all dressed in BLACK from head to toe. No pops of color allowed. It was tons of fun. Glad you agree theme bdays are the best. And, glad to know you went home with nothing less than 3 bottles :).

  3. I would love to go to a winery! seems like you guys had fun!

I know for me, my last birthday my friends and my family all went out to dinner at a fancy restaurant and then went out for drinks at a bar. It makes it harder when my bday is so close to Halloween, so this time I celebrated a week early so that everyone could come.

    Thanks for linkin' up!
